Bespoke Council Chamber Furniture Installation at South Ribble Council

Prentation of ceremonial gavel for the Mayor, crafted from oak sourced from Worden Park.

When South Ribble Council set out to modernise its council chambers at the Civic Centre in Leyland, the aim was to create a professional and functional environment that would support effective communication and collaboration. A & L Furnishings Limited, an accredited Guild member, was commissioned to manufacture and install bespoke council chamber units in line with detailed architectural drawings.

The design specified two distinct layouts within the chamber. An outer U shaped formation would accommodate council members, providing clear sightlines and encouraging open discussion. Within this, an inner horseshoe configuration was designed to facilitate executive meetings and promote inclusive debate. Delivering these arrangements required careful interpretation of the drawings and a thorough understanding of how the space would be used in practice.

Precision Craftsmanship and Collaborative Project Delivery

From the earliest stage, A & L Furnishings Limited approached the project with diligence and professionalism. The team worked closely with the Council’s representatives to clarify dimensions, materials and spatial requirements. On site checks were undertaken to ensure that every element aligned precisely with the approved plans before fabrication began.

Material selection was handled with care, balancing durability with an appearance suited to a civic setting. The chosen finishes complemented the chamber interior while ensuring the furniture would withstand regular use. Modular construction techniques were used to assemble the U shape and horseshoe layouts, providing both structural integrity and flexibility for future adaptation.

Manufacture was completed locally and off site to maintain strict quality control and minimise disruption to council operations. Installation was then carefully scheduled around chamber availability, with experienced fitters assembling the units efficiently and accurately before final checks were carried out alongside council representatives.

Commitment to Higher Standards in Bespoke Commercial Joinery

The completed project was delivered within the agreed timeframe and budget and received very positive feedback from the Council. Representatives highlighted the collaborative approach taken throughout the project and praised the quality of the finished space. They noted that the chamber successfully balances the history and character of the borough with the needs of a modern democratic institution, creating a room where important civic decisions will be made for years to come.

A particularly meaningful addition was the creation of a ceremonial mayoral gavel crafted from oak sourced from Worden Park. This thoughtful detail symbolises the connection between the chamber and the heritage of South Ribble.

This project reflects the skill, technical expertise and attention to detail that define A & L Furnishings Limited. As a Guild member, the company demonstrates a clear commitment to higher standards, ensuring that every stage of a project is delivered with integrity, precision and pride in the finished result.
