Allan Brothers Unveils Heritage Timber Window Collection for Period Properties

Heritage WindowsBespoke Timber Windows for Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas

The Guild of Master Craftsmen is pleased to highlight the latest development from longstanding member Allan Brothers, one of the UK’s most respected and historic timber window and door manufacturers. The Berwick-upon-Tweed based company has announced the launch of its new Heritage Window Collection, created specifically for listed buildings, period homes and properties located within Conservation Areas.

Drawing upon more than two centuries of joinery expertise, Allan Brothers has developed a carefully considered range of traditional timber windows that combine authentic heritage styling with modern craftsmanship and performance. The new collection includes beautifully detailed sliding sash windows alongside matching flush casement windows, providing property owners with a sympathetic solution for homes that feature a mix of historic window styles.

As specialists in bespoke timber joinery, Allan Brothers has designed the Heritage range to replicate the character and proportions of original period windows. Each unit is individually made to measure using high quality Redwood or Red Grandis timber, ensuring every installation complements the architectural integrity of the property.

The new sliding sash windows include a traditional 40mm mid-rail together with hand-applied 9mm external beading designed to recreate the appearance of historic putty lines. Slim-profile 14mm double glazing has also been incorporated to achieve the visual effect of older single-glazed panes while still offering improved thermal performance. Solid 24mm through bars further enhance the authentic appearance by closely mimicking traditional separate glass panes.

Attention to historical detail continues throughout the collection, with customers able to tailor designs to suit Georgian, Victorian or Edwardian properties. Decorative horns, traditional butt hinges, peg-and-stay fittings and authentic cord-and-weight opening systems are all available, helping homeowners and conservation professionals achieve a highly accurate period finish.

Speaking about the launch, Managing Director Morten Bach Valsted explained that Allan Brothers’ long history in timber craftsmanship made the development of a heritage-focused range a natural progression for the business. He also highlighted the practical challenges many owners face when replacing windows in older buildings, particularly where planning considerations and conservation requirements must be carefully balanced.

The ability to provide matching sash and casement styles across different parts of a property is expected to be especially valuable for historic homes where consistency in appearance is essential. This unified approach can also help support smoother planning approvals within Conservation Areas.

Originally dating back to 1811, Allan Brothers is widely recognised as one of Britain’s oldest joinery specialists. Today, the company continues to manufacture a broad range of customised timber and Alu Clad windows and doors for homeowners, architects, builders and developers across the UK. Its products are quality assured to British and European Standards and accredited by Secured by Design.

The Guild of Master Craftsmen is proud to support members such as Allan Brothers, whose dedication to traditional skills, innovation and quality craftsmanship continues to help preserve the character of Britain’s historic buildings for future generations.
