The Guild of Master Craftsmen is proud to congratulate Scott Reid, founder of Stratum Masonry in Glasgow, on reaching the final of the prestigious Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2025 competition. Although he was narrowly pipped at the post this time, his remarkable journey to the national final highlights his dedication, craftsmanship, and commitment to preserving traditional skills.
At just 35 years old, Scott has already built an outstanding career in stonemasonry. With more than 16 years of experience, he founded Stratum Masonry in 2019. Since then, the business has flourished, employing 20 staff, including apprentices keen to learn the art of working with stone. His leadership has not only grown the company but also created opportunities for young people to begin a rewarding career in the trade.
The Screwfix Top Tradesperson award is one of the most respected competitions in the UK trade industry. This year, thousands of tradespeople entered, with only 40 progressing to the semi-finals. From there, just 10 exceptional finalists were chosen to compete at Screwfix Live in September. Scott was the only finalist representing traditional crafts, an achievement in itself and a huge recognition for the importance of heritage trades in modern construction.
While he didn’t take home the overall award, Scott’s place in the final underlines his talent and passion for the craft. His vision for the future of stonemasonry remains ambitious: he hopes to establish an academy for aspiring stonemasons, addressing the skills gap that continues to challenge the sector.
Reflecting on his experience, Scott said:
“I’m incredibly proud to have represented stonemasonry and traditional trades at the Screwfix Top Tradesperson final. Our craft is a vital part of preserving the country’s heritage, and it means a lot to have the skills of my team and the wider trade recognised on such a big stage. Being a member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen has really supported me on this journey. It gives customers confidence in the quality of our work and connects us with other passionate tradespeople. For me, it’s not just about competing, it’s about showing the next generation that there’s a future in traditional skills, and that they can build a rewarding career in this industry.”
The Guild of Master Craftsmen warmly congratulates Scott for his success in reaching the national final. His dedication to his craft, his determination to support apprentices, and his vision for the future of traditional skills are an inspiration to all. Though the award wasn’t his this year, his achievement stands as a testament to the value of craftsmanship and the continued relevance of heritage trades in the 21st century.
